8 things you absolutely must do in Bali

Bali is an island that needs to be on everyone’s bucket list. With a vibrant local culture, stunning mountain scenery and the world’s best beaches it’s hardly surprising so many people want to visit! But where to start exploring?

During your Surf Getaways tour there’ll be plenty of free time to enjoy and explore the island as you please - here we propose some optional activities. For the ones of you that decide to come a few days earlier or stay a bit longer after the tour, we’ll talk about other fun things to do around Bali to make the most out of your visit.

1. Surfing

If you’re a regular surfer, surfing before, during and after the tour is always recommended. Bali is home to some of the best surf breaks in the world, and we’ll make sure to show you some of them. While you’re on tour you’ll have plenty of time to free surf around the area to practice what you have learnt during the surf coaching sessions, and our experienced coaches will point you towards the best breaks in the area based on your preferences and level.

2. Visit the beautiful temples

The Island of Gods, a.k.a. Bali, is home to many beautiful Balinese-Hindu temples, and one of the best things to do is to visit one (or all) of them! We’re lucky enough to have one of our favourite temples, Tanah Lot only a short drive away from the hotel. Easy to visit during your free time and totally worth it – there’s also a hidden surf break right next to it. Remember to always dress appropriately when you visit a Balinese temple and be respectful.

3. Go chasing waterfalls

Bali has some absolutely stunning tropical nature, and one of the best things to do is to get out amongst it. Top of the list for nature experiences is a visit to one of the island’s many waterfalls which cascade down from on high into crystal clear pools. If exploring the most beautiful waterfalls is on your must do list, make sure to ask our local guides for the best recommendations in our area.

4. Soak up the sun

Bali is home to some beautiful beaches, and so it comes as no surprise that one of the best things to do is to soak up the sun, enjoy the water, kick back and relax! Sanur, Uluwatu and Canggu are offer of the most popular beaches in Bali. For a more secluded Bali beach trip, visit Candidasa or Balangan. Some – like Bingin and Jimbaran – have great seafood restaurants, right on the sand.

5. Join a cooking class

Balinese food and cuisine are a huge part of Balinese culture, and when you visit you should definitely try the local food. While on tour you’ll get to taste some of the best Indonesian cuisine and try the most incredible flavours of Bali. If you’re an exotic cuisine lover, take the chance to learn from a local in a Balinese cooking class. Expect beautiful combinations of strong flavours and fresh ingredients.

6. Go diving or snorkelling

Say hello to the sea life! Indonesia is one of the best places to go diving or snorkelling in the world, and Bali is no exception. For diving in Bali, head to Padang Bai, Tulamben or Menjangan island. There are many great places for snorkelling, but one you should definitely try is Amed in the east of the island. If you decide to stay longer in Bali, this is a great idea to see a different side of the island.

7. Hike Mount Batur at sunrise

Mount Batur is one of the best hikes in Bali, especially at sunrise. It’s absolutely stunning, especially when you get above the clouds and watch the sun come up in beautiful shades of pink and red. Climbing Mount Batur is one of the most popular trips on the island, so make sure you book your tour in advance. It’s a challenging hike, and not for the faint of heart, but the reward is incomparable. A great option if you have a couple of days before or after your Surf Getaways tour and are a hiking enthusiast.

8. Visit Tegalalang Rice Terraces
